Getting a Big is one of the most sacred relationships you
will have not just in college, but also for the rest of your life. It’s the
person who will be there for you no matter what life throws at you. It’s also
the person you call at two in the morning when you need a ride and a bed to
sleep in.
With all this pressure the hunt for finding a big can be
difficult. You only have a short time between when you get a bid and big/little
reveal. Take a few of these tips to make sure your big ends up a crying
bridesmaid one day at your wedding.
1. If you get asked to go on “dates” then treat it
like one! Whether it be grabbing Starbucks in between classes or going out for
fro-yo, go into it like you were trying to meet your future soul mate because
in a way you are. Have good conversation points ready to go because there’s
nothing worse than a date where there’s nothing to talk about.
2. You will hear this all the time once you start
going through Greek life, but BE YOURSELF. It’s hard to not fake it when you’re
going through recruitment, but when you’re finding your future big you need to be
yourself to ensure maximum compatibility.
3. Be as social as you can! Those first few weeks
are the best time to meet as many of the girls as you can. The more girls you
meet, the more options you have. You don’t want to feel “stuck” with a girl as
your big just because she was the only one you hung out with.
4. Be prepared for anything. Yes, some people
end up with their top choice, but some people may have never met their big
before reveal. Sometimes the ones who have never met them before turn into some
of the strongest pairings I have ever seen.
So try not to stress and let it all
come naturally. In the end you will still have an entire chapter of sisters
there for you if you and your big don’t work out!
